Independent Analysts: Cal “Definitely” Won NCSen Debate, Tillis “Has Some Work to Do” As He Fails to Offer a Health Care Plan

Tillis has “offered no credible replacement” for ACA, as voters say they can’t “trust” him and Cal “took more of a stance on issues and he hit Tillis where Tillis is weak”

Senator Tillis was on defense throughout the entire second #NCSen debate last night, and failed yet again to articulate a health care plan and defend his record caving to wealthy special interests like Big Pharma. After the debate, independent voters said they couldn’t “trust” Senator Tillis and that “Cunningham did a better job,” while analysts proclaimed Cal “definitely” won last night’s debate and Senator Tillis “has some work to do.”

On health care, Senator Tillis still couldn’t defend his record of voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act and has “offered no credible replacement” for the health care law and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Senator Tillis “incorrectly” tried to attack Cal on universal health care, which “Cunningham has been consistent” about, leading Cal to respond that Senator Tillis is “attacking my position because he has none.”

On the SCOTUS vacancy, Senator Tillis “has quickly aligned himself with Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell,” and was unable to answer a moderator’s question of whether that’s a “flip flop.” Cal hit Senator Tillis for having “written a blank check to the president,” and Independent voters noted that Cal “hit Tillis where Tillis is weak and that’s his hypocrisy between 2016 and now.”

On Senator Tillis’ ties to Big Pharma, Senator Tillis did not even attempt to defend why he’s caved to wealthy special interests, including why he received the most money from PACs tied to pharmaceutical companies last year. Last week, an investigation revealed that Senator Tillis raked in campaign cash from PACs tied to Big Pharma after introducing an industry friendly bill that one expert said revealed Tillis as a “very close ally” of the pharmaceutical industry and “ a very dependable vote in favor of the interest.”

On a mask mandate, Senator Tillis “never directly answered if he supports a mandate,” a position that angered independent voters watching last night. One voter said, “I very much doubt him either way because I can’t trust [you] if you can’t answer a question straight up.” Other independents said “Cunningham did a better job” and Cal “took more of a stance on issues and he hit Tillis where Tillis is weak and that’s his hypocrisy between 2016 and now.
