Pat McCrory: “We’re really not hearing from Congressman Budd…he’s in hiding.”
Conservative commentator: “A focus on turning out hard-core partisans is a plan to lose.”
With the North Carolina race for U.S. Senate in a “dead heat,” members of Budd’s own party are expressing concern about his campaign and ability to win.
- On Capital Tonight, fellow Republican and former Governor Pat McCrory called Budd out for “hiding,” saying North Carolina voters are “not hearing” from his campaign. (Reminder: McCrory has refused to endorse Budd since losing the primary in May.)
- Conservative commentator John Hood’s op-ed signals trouble for Budd’s campaign as he “has not yet done what it will take to gather back into the fold wayward Republicans” who didn’t support him in the primary. It’s a warning sign for Budd who has continuously taken extreme stances – even among his own party – that if he can’t “attract soft partisans and true swing voters, a focus on turning out hard-core partisans is a plan to lose.”
