Raleigh – North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement ahead of President Donald Trump’s rally in Charlotte in support of Rep. Ted Budd and GOP candidate Mark Harris:

“This week’s events have shown that President Trump’s lies, rhetoric, and attacks have consequences. But rather than focus on uniting our state and country in the wake of these assassination attempts on prominent Democratic officials and supporters, President Trump will undoubtedly do what he does best: stoke division and fear.

“While President Trump tries to scare voters, Republicans in Congress are working out in the open to slash Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to address the ballooning national debt caused by their own disastrous tax bill, and to deceive voters on their unending efforts to end protections for people with asthma, cancer, diabetes, and other preexisting conditions. Mark Harris and Ted Budd will vote in lock step with their party to destroy these important policies and protections.”
