North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement congratulating Cal Cunningham on his strong win in tonight’s debate:

“North Carolina just saw its next Senator in Cal Cunningham. Cal showed in his decisive victory tonight that he will take on the corruption in Washington and will always put North Carolina first, while Senator Tillis showed yet again why North Carolinians don’t trust him.

“Senator Tillis has tried to gut our health care and end protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and when faced with his record, his office callously told a cancer survivor that she’s on her own. Senator Tillis blocked Medicaid expansion and bragged about it. And Senator Tillis continues to do the bidding of his corporate special interest donors, even as they get caught in corrupt schemes. North Carolina will have a proven fighter in Cal, and we can’t wait to replace our current spineless, Washington politician with a strong, independent voice who will always put our state first.”
