While Governor Romney spent virtually no time campaigning in the Tar Heel State before the primary, his views and positions on important issues to North Carolinians are already familiar to us. Instead of moving our state forward by investing in a North Carolina for the next century, Romney has embraced the extreme Ryan budget, which drastically cuts education, research, worker training, and infrastructure – all to pay for more budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy. Instead of fighting to make education more affordable for all, Romney would make the Department of Education “a heck of a lot smaller” and leave college students on their own to “shop around.” Read More »

U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC), a member of the Senate Small Business Committee, on Monday will announce a bill she is introducing that will reduce paperwork burden on small businesses. Hagan will make the announcement during a Small Business Regulatory Fairness Forum. Hagan and Esther H. Vassar, US Small Business Administration National Ombudsman, are hosting the forum to meet with area small business owners to hear their concerns and discuss ways to create a better environment for small businesses to grow and create jobs. U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today joined 34 other senators in urging Senators Tom Harkin and Richard Shelby, chairman and ranking member of the Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over education funding, to continue funding for the Impact Aid Program for fiscal year 2013. In a letter dated March 29, 2012, Senator Hagan and her colleagues urged the subcommittee to recognize the importance of the program that supports public education in areas impacted by a federal presence. Hagan (NC) called on the Senate to take up the long overdue fix of the flawed federal education law. Hagan serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which last October passed legislation to reform and improve No Child Left Behind.
