Josh Stein Wallops Opponent in Q2 Fundraising

North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein has reported more than $2.2 million dollars raised in 2020 with $5,758,509 on hand as of June 30 – more than any non-gubernatorial statewide candidate has ever had in North Carolina’s history.

Stein has also received donations from residents in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, including more than 3,600 individual grassroots donations (under $100) in this reporting period alone.

The haul gives Stein a 50:1 cash advantage over his Republican opponent, Jim O’Neill, the single largest differential of all the North Carolina statewide races. O’Neill, who reported only $116,000 cash on hand, received just 15 grassroots donations and 166 total from supporters in fewer than 25 counties since February.

“North Carolinians know Josh Stein has been their champion at the Department of Justice — it’s why his support comes from the grassroots and from every county across the Tar Heel State,” said NCDP Communications Director Austin Cook. “Josh has been a leading advocate for working families on issues ranging from consumer protections to affordable healthcare. Meanwhile, Jim O’Neill’s embarrassing totals prove what we’ve known for months: that his campaign is being propped up almost entirely by a few corporate donors and special interest groups.”

To date, Stein has received more than 17,000 individual contributions to his re-election campaign.
