Statement on Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette’s Visit to NC

Raleigh – Today, ahead of Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette’s visit to North Carolina, NCDP Communications Director Austin Cook released the following statement:

“North Carolina is proudly home to more service members and veterans than almost any other state in the country, but this summer’s COVID-19 outbreak at Fort Bragg is a stark reminder of the Trump administration’s failure to protect our heroes from the coronavirus. Our men and women in uniform deserve much more than the Trump administration’s bungled response to this pandemic, which has put them and their families in jeopardy even as they serve our country at home and abroad. No visits by Trump officials like Secretary Brouillette can change that reality.”

Background on Trump’s Failure to Protect our Service Members and Veterans from COVID-19

Trump has said at least two dozen times that the virus will go away on its own.
  • Earlier this summer, more than 90 soldiers at Fort Bragg for a military training course tested positive for coronavirus and more than 100 were forced to quarantine as a result.
  • According to state data, dozens of North Carolina veterans have died from coronavirus in veteran nursing homes across the state.
