The second quarter campaign finance reports are in, and the North Carolina Republican Senate candidates are getting “testy.” The recent fundraising announcements prompted a new round of infighting among the candidates:
- Congressman Ted Budd’s adviser said: “Pat McCrory has the deft touch of a tier-one professional politician when it comes to working over fat cats and raising big dollars at some of the most exclusive venues across North Carolina.”
- Failing to acknowledge the over $5 million that Club for Growth has already raised for Congressman Budd, the McCrory campaign sent a press release highlighting Budd’s “shockingly weak” and “anemic” fundraising report, and slammed his “inability to capitalize on his own special interest help from Washington” and his “inconsistent voting record.”
- Online, McCrory allies are bashing Congressman Budd for a $250,000 personal loan to his campaign and continue to criticize his “weak fundraising performance,” saying it shows his campaign isn’t “serious about winning” and doesn’t “know what it’ll take to win in a General.”
“The brutal infighting raging in this primary is on full display once again for North Carolina voters to witness,” said NCDP spokeswoman Kate Frauenfelder. “These fundraising numbers and the ensuing spats are just the latest proof that this GOP field is destined for a nasty, drawn-out, race to the bottom primary fight.”
