“Profile in Compliance”: Blistering Editorial Slams Tillis After He “Caves to Trump” Over SCOTUS

“Anything President Trump wants, Sen. Thom Tillis is willing to deliver.”

A blistering new editorial from the News & Observer slams Senator Tillis for his subservience to President Trump and Mitch McConnell after Senator Tillis announced over the weekend that he will confirm a nominee to a lifetime appointment before the nominee is announced, vetted or testifies.

A “profile in compliance,” Senator Tillis has “improbably managed to outdo his last spectacular flip-flop” over the president’s emergency declaration and has cemented himself as a “rubber stamp” who is “clinging to Trump’s coattails in a desperate hope that his blind subservience to the president can get him re-elected to an office that is supposed to be about independent judgment and leadership.”

Worse, Senator Tillis’ rush to approve a nominee “will deeply divide the country and weaken public faith in the Supreme Court,” and it will have an “immense” impact on the future of North Carolinians’ health care, jeopardizing protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Key Points:

  • Anything President Trump wants, Sen. Thom Tillis is willing to deliver. North Carolina’s junior senator is clinging to Trump’s coattails in a desperate hope that his blind subservience to the president can get him re-elected to an office that is supposed to be about independent judgment and leadership.
  • Now that is a profile in compliance. Not only does Tillis endorse the Senate considering Trump’s nominee late in an election year, he’s committed to voting yes before the nominee is vetted or testifies.
  • Tillis has now improbably managed to outdo his last spectacular flip-flop.
