Today, North Carolina Republicans held a press conference outlining new censorship efforts to restrict what educators can teach. Instead of listening to court orders and adequately funding education or listening to teachers’ pleas for a substantial pay increase, North Carolina Republicans have been listening to “opinion writers” who are pushing conspiracy theories as a distraction tactic.
“After more than a year of unprecedented challenges for students and educators, Republicans are trying to distract from the very real deficiencies that exist in North Carolina schools,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson. “If Republicans really cared about what is going on in schools, they would fulfill their responsibility to North Carolina students and utilize some of this year’s unexpected revenue to sufficiently fund a sound education. Instead, they are promoting divisive rhetoric to distract from their unwillingness to put the best interests of students and teachers before large corporations.”
