Today, following Judge David Lee’s order to transfer the funding necessary to provide a “sound basic education” as guaranteed by the North Carolina Constitution, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement:

“For far too long students have not received their Constitutional right of a ‘sound basic education.’ Today’s decision is a victory for students, parents, teachers, and faculty that have been failed by Republicans’ record of funding corporate tax breaks instead of public education. This directive demonstrates that our state has the ability to provide a better education for our students. I remain hopeful that those in budget negotiations with Governor Cooper find the political will to include those funds.”
