ICYMI: NCDP Holds “Defend Choice Week of Action” Raleigh Press Conference

Today, North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) Chair Bobbie Richardson was joined by State Senator and NC-13 congressional candidate Wiley Nickel and Liz Beck, a Johnston County mom, for a press conference as part of the Democratic National Committee’s Defend Choice Week of Action.

Throughout the week of action, Democrats in North Carolina and across the country will engage supporters and mobilize voters with reproductive rights on the line this November after the decades-long Republican campaign to overturn Roe v. Wade

From the top-ticket U.S. Senate race down the ballot, organizing to elect Democrats like State Senator and NC-13 congressional candidate Wiley Nickel is the backdrop to protecting abortion rights in North Carolina amid Ted Budd, Bo Hines and North Carolina Republicans’ current efforts to push their extreme agenda to ban abortion in our state with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.

“A large majority of people here in the 13th District oppose the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. As a North Carolina State Senator, I’ve fought against bills that would restrict access to abortion in North Carolina. In Washington, I will fight to protect reproductive health care rights and make sure we protect every woman’s right to choose. Bo Hines, my opponent in this race, said he wants to criminalize abortions without any exceptions. Extreme positions on abortion are not what voters are looking for in this election. North Carolina’s 13th District has the chance to send a message to Washington this November by electing pro-choice candidates to represent them,” said State Senator and NC-13 congressional candidate Wiley Nickel

“In North Carolina, Republicans, including U.S. Senate candidate Ted Budd and Republican candidate for North Carolina’s 13th congressional district Bo Hines, are pushing an extreme agenda to restrict abortion in our state with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother. That’s why we’re joining the Democratic National Committee and Democrats in North Carolina and across the country to hold a Week of Action to turn our anger into action to organize to elect Democrats like Cheri Beasley and Wiley Nickel this November,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson

“I’m here today, because as a Democratic voter in NC-13, it’s more critical than ever that we take to the ballot box this November to call out North Carolina Republicans, including Ted Budd and Bo Hines, for opposing abortion rights. It’s terrifying to think that Ted Budd and Bo Hines could represent me. These two men want to ban abortion without any exceptions. As a mom, as a woman, as a voter in North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District, I’m committed to doing everything I can to help elect Cheri Beasley to the U.S. Senate and Wiley Nickel to Congress this November,” said Liz Beck, a Johnston County mom
