As the MAGA base continues to show no enthusiasm for Michael Whatley and as Don Brown claims the MAGA lane in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, DC Republicans are scrambling to resuscitate the campaign of their handpicked candidate, DC insider and lifelong political operative Michael Whatley.

“Michael Whatley is the epitome of a DC insider. A Big Oil lobbyist and lifelong political hack, Whatley has spent his career delivering for billionaires, special interests, and DC politicians,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor for the North Carolina Democratic Party. “Now, the DC elites who handpicked him for this seat are desperate to save his weak campaign because his own base can’t stand him.”

Whatley’s lack of support from the GOP base has been in the spotlight for weeks. Steve Bannon slammed Whatley, saying “the MAGA folks [are] just not enthusiastic” about him.

Don Brown hasn’t minced words, saying “Republicans don’t want Whatley rammed down their throat” and he’s “1,000% confident we’re going to take him out.”
