Today, Senate Republicans – cheered on by DC insider Michael Whatley – once again refused to lower health care costs as North Carolinians see their health care premiums skyrocket, doubling or more on average. In response, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton released the following statement:
“DC Republicans are once again refusing to fix the health care crisis they created and are letting health care costs skyrocket for working families – and Michael Whatley has backed them every step of the way. Nearly a million North Carolinians rely on the ACA subsidies that are set to expire, yet Whatley is championing every effort to make health care unaffordable for North Carolina families. It’s absolutely astounding that Whatley expects North Carolina voters to send him to the U.S. Senate when he has repeatedly left us behind to side with DC politicians, billionaires, and special interests.”
DC insider Michael Whatley has repeatedly championed Republicans’ efforts to raise health care costs on North Carolinians:
- Whatley backed the toxic GOP budget that guts Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians and is driving up health care costs, all to give billionaires a tax break. He called it a “huge win” and said he would have voted for it “in a heartbeat.”
- Whatley – who called for repealing the ACA – supports DC Republicans refusing to extend the ACA tax credits that make health care more affordable.
- Nearly one million North Carolinians rely on the ACA tax credits.
- Estimates show out-of-pocket premiums could increase by 114% once the extended ACA subsidies expire.
