Senator Tillis still can’t find the courage within himself to say anything more than his tired, pathetic dodge that Senator Richard Burr “owes an explanation.”

This morning, when asked by Hugh Hewitt whether there should be any repercussions for Senator Burr after news broke last night that the FBI seized his cell phone in connection to his pandemic profiteering scandal, Senator Tillis refused to say that Burr should lose his chairmanship:

• Tillis: “That’s … between Senator Burr and the leader. I do believe as I’ve said before he owes us all an explanation. … We just need to see where the investigation ends.”

If it feels like deja vu, that’s because you’ve heard that same lame dodge from Tillis before. 

Then again, this is the same weak politician who said “It’s never a tough vote for me when I’m standing on principle” before caving on those principles and allowing the president to raid $80 million from North Carolina military bases.

“The FBI showed up on the private doorstep of the Senate Intelligence Chairman to issue a warrant and seize his cell phone and Thom Tillis and North Carolina Republicans can’t find it within themselves to say more than that he just ‘owes an explanation,’” NCDP spokesperson Robert Howard said. “What will it take before Senator Tillis and North Carolina Republicans demand some actual accountability from Senator Burr?”
