#NCSEN Texting Tussle Sends Message Of Nasty GOP Primary

The nasty Republican U.S. Senate primary continues as former Congressman Mark Walker is sending out mass text messages attacking his primary opponent Congressman Ted Budd for his family’s involvement in a business that cost farmers millions of dollars.

“North Carolina Republican candidates for U.S. Senate can’t stop attacking each other in this chaotic primary fight,” said NCDP spokesperson Kate Frauenfelder. “Mark Walker and the entire GOP field are doing everything they can to tear down their primary rivals and undermine their campaigns’ viability.”

In just the past several days:

  • Congressman Ted Budd has pushed a far-right, anti-choice agenda. In the U.S. House, Ted Budd has supported completely defunding Planned Parenthood, supported legislation that would impose a nationwide ban on abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy, and supports legislation that could outlaw abortion and common forms of birth control.

  • Pat McCrory attacked his opponents for seeking endorsements, claiming it’s because “they have no record,” however, McCrory earlier this year said “he’d welcome” former President Trump’s endorsement.
  • Club for Growth, an ultra-conservative group backing Budd, spent tens of thousands of dollars to run an attack against Pat McCrory highlighting his losing record, crediting his gubernatorial loss to his comments “publicly trashing” former President Trump and calling him a “disloyal, liberal, loser.”
