While Democrats Fight To Help Working Families, Republicans Continue To Push Extreme Legislation

It’s crossover week in the North Carolina General Assembly, and Democrats have introduced a number of bills that would invest in families and put more money into the pockets of hardworking North Carolinians, including reinstating the Earned Income Tax Credit, providing $1,000 grants to individuals who faced unemployment for at least 3 months last year, and enacting paid family leave and sick leave for workers. But Republicans remain focused on misguided priorities.

“This past year has been catastrophic for so many families across our state, and it’s on our legislative leaders to ensure that we are able to rebuild and recover,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson. “While North Carolina Democrats are fighting to put more money into the pockets of hardworking North Carolinians, Republicans have been prioritizing extreme legislation, like micromanaging our educators, banning public schools from teaching about our nation’s injustices, and restricting access to women’s health care, that is out of touch with the current needs of the people of North Carolina.”
