Statement on the Beginning of This Week’s Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings

As the Senate Judiciary Committee begins hearings on Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein released the following statement:

“Today’s Supreme Court hearing represents yet another Republican attack on the Affordable Care Act and the protections it provides to millions of people across North Carolina. And it is wrong for this hearing even to take place; this election is already underway — we should let the voters decide. The fact that they are ramming this nomination through unmasks the hypocrisy of Donald Trump and Senate Republicans, including Thom Tillis — in 2016, they said to let the voters decide. Since this seat will decide their health care and financial security, North Carolinians deserve a say in who will fills it.”
