Special Health Insurance Enrollment Period Offers Relief For Those Who Have Lost Health Insurance During COVID-19 Pandemic

Yesterday, the Biden-Harris Administration opened HealthCare.gov for all Americans to have the opportunity to sign up for health insurance. NCDP Chair and former North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin issued the following statement in response:

“North Carolina Democrats believe that health care is a right, not a privilege, and applaud President Biden for doing everything in his power to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care – especially in the midst of a pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians have lost their health insurance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, they will be able to use this special enrollment period to explore their options for health insurance, and help secure some peace of mind as we work to beat the pandemic.

“As North Carolina’s Insurance Commissioner during the passage and rollout of the Affordable Care Act, I witnessed firsthand the positive impact it had on North Carolinians. We must work to expand and strengthen it by passing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which takes big steps to lower health costs and expand access to care for all Americans, including those who have lost their jobs.”
