NCDP Statement on Trump’s Speech in Wilmington

Raleigh – Following his partisan speech in front of the USS North Carolina this afternoon, NCDP Communications Director Austin Cook released the following statement:

“48 hours ago, the White House Press Secretary said there was ‘not a political purpose’ to Donald Trump’s visit to Wilmington today. After his politicized speech this afternoon, we know we can add that to the long list of lies this administration has told the American people.

“Today, Trump used the USS North Carolina, a public monument, as a prop for a dangerous, partisan photo-op where few masks were worn and no social distancing was enforced — all the while ignoring the issues most pressing to North Carolinians like how to confront the health and economic crises so families across North Carolina can get back on their feet.

“Trump has no answers to those questions, and that’s why his only campaign strategy is to sow division and hope voters don’t notice that he has no real agenda for a second term.”
