Ahead of the 2021 legislative session, North Carolina Democrats are ready to get to work on critical issues to the people of North Carolina who continue to struggle with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Today, North Carolina Democrats are laying out their priorities to move North Carolina forward.

“After our country witnessed some of the darkest and divided times in its history, North Carolina Democrats are committed to building a better future for the people of this state,” said NCDP Chairman Wayne Goodwin. “It’s past time the General Assembly takes bold action on important issues, including addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, closing the coverage gap, investing in infrastructure and our public schools, and ensuring good government that empowers all people so that all North Carolinians have an equal chance to thrive. The people of North Carolina are strong, resilient, and hard-working. That’s why I am confident that there are better days ahead.”

Read more about North Carolina Democrats’ legislative priorities:

Supporting North Carolinians Through The COVID-19 Pandemic: As North Carolinians continue to deal with the challenges of the pandemic, North Carolina Democrats look ahead to the next federal relief package. North Carolinians out of work are in “one of the stingiest unemployment programs in the country.” North Carolina Democrats will fight for higher and longer benefits, and work to secure additional COVID relief for small businesses teetering on the verge of bankruptcy and families struggling to make ends meet.

Investing In Infrastructure & Public Schools: It’s time to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. North Carolina Democrats are committed to creating good-paying jobs, making statewide investments in broadband and education, fulfilling the promise to our children to provide a sound, basic education, and paying teachers what they deserve.

Expanding Health Care Access: COVID 19 has exacerbated the many challenges people face without access to affordable health care. Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians have lost their health care since the start of the pandemic. North Carolina Democrats will work to close the coverage gap by fighting for Medicaid expansion.

Ending Partisan Gerrymandering & Addressing Racial Inequities: North Carolina continues to be one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. North Carolina Democrats will stand up for nonpartisan, independent redistricting and make sure the people have the power to choose their politicians — not the other way around. Paramount to ensuring good government for all people also means providing meaningful steps toward addressing racial inequities across the state, including improving police practices, enhancing accountability, and strengthening the law enforcement profession.
