America’s Economy – and North Carolina’s – Are Coming Back Thanks to President Biden

The June jobs report surpassed experts’ expectations

report released by the Labor Department today shows that 850,000 jobs were added in the U.S. in the month of June. Since President Joe Biden took office, a total of 3 million American jobs have been created – the most in the first five months of a presidency on record.

After multiple sectors experienced economic hardship brought on by COVID-19, today’s report is proof that President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan is working. The historic piece of legislation cut middle class taxes and put checks in the bank accounts of people who had been hurt most by the pandemic. The American Rescue Plan also helped to implement a vaccination program to get Americans, including North Carolinians, vaccinated faster than any other country in the world, allowing businesses and schools to reopen again.

“Shots are in arms, checks are in bank accounts, and the American economy is responding in kind. Today’s June jobs report is welcomed news after a harrowing 16 months of economic despair that caused businesses to close their doors and schools to shut down. This report is proof that passing historic legislation like President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan leads to the creation of jobs and economic growth, both in North Carolina and across the country,” said NCDP Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty.

Thanks to President Biden’s American Rescue Plan:

  • Leisure and hospitality added 343,00 jobs in June, raising its three-month average job growth to 326,000.
  • State and local governments and education added more than 190,000 jobs.
  • 560,000 jobs/per month on average have been created since President Biden took office.
  • Average wages are up 1.4% over the last three months – the strongest increase before the pandemic since 2006.
