NEW: Dark Money Anti-Abortion Group Announces $80 Million Midterm Investment With Sights Set on North Carolina

In new reporting from POLITICO, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America – a dark money anti-abortion group that exclusively supports candidates who back a national abortion banannounced an $80 million investment in the midterms, including spending on behalf of DC insider Michael Whatley. This comes as Senate Republicans are pushing even stricter abortion restrictions.

Whatley was “proud” when Roe v. Wade was overturned and celebrated North Carolina passing a severe abortion ban with limited exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother, calling it “responsible,” “reasonable,” and “mainstream.” Whatley was also chair of the North Carolina Republican Party when it adopted a platform with a plank that would ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions.

Now, Whatley wants to take his support for a national abortion ban to the U.S. Senate.

“Out-of-state dark money groups are pledging to flood North Carolina with millions of dollars to prop up Michael Whatley because they know he’ll answer to DC, not North Carolinians,” said North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton. “Michael Whatley is an out-of-touch DC insider and anti-abortion extremist who will always put special interests over protecting women and their freedoms.”
