The Big Ugly Bill, Bye Bye Thom, Independence Day
Our Digital Messages This Week š
The Big Ugly Bill ā
Donald Trump and House Republicans just passed The Big UGLY Bill ā and yep, itās exactly what it sounds like.
This bill rips health care from 17 million Americans, slashes food assistance, kills jobs, and blows up the deficit ā all to hand billionaires another massive tax break. Itās cruel, reckless, and a complete betrayal of the very people Republicans were elected to serve.
Here in North Carolina, MAGA loyalists like Ted Budd and Virginia Foxx signed off on this disaster ā throwing working families under the bus to please Trump and their mega-donor pals.
Hereās the cold, hard truth for North Carolina:
-
651,982 of our neighbors are at risk of losing Medicaid ā the largest Medicaid cut in U.S. history.
-
Energy bills will spike by 18%, just as families are already struggling to get by.
-
Thousands will lose food assistance, forcing more children and families to go hungry.
-
While working families suffer, this bill adds $3.25 trillion to the national deficit
This isnāt just bad policy. Itās a reverse Robin Hood scheme ā stealing from the rest of us to reward the ultra-rich. We deserve better. North Carolinians deserve better. We deserve leaders who protect health care, support working families, and fight for us ā not just for the wealthy few.
Democrats are mobilizing to fight back. Weāre holding every Republican who backed this bill accountable ā starting in 2026. And we wonāt stop until working families come first again.
Bye Bye, Thom š
Senator Thom Tillis is packing it up and calling it a careerābut letās not rewrite history on his way out. Sure, he voted no on the Big Ugly Bill, but letās be real: he only found his backbone after Donald Trump promised to back a new MAGA loyalist to replace him in 2026. Now, as he runs for the exit, some are trying to frame it as the noble farewell of a “principled moderate”.
Letās set the record straight.
This is the same guy who bragged about blocking Medicaid expansion as NC House Speaker, then had protesters arrested for demanding basic healthcare. The guy who gerrymandered our state into a pretzel, lined his pockets with Big Pharma money, and called the fall of Roe āhistoric and monumental.ā
Ten years in the U.S. Senateānot one in-person town hall. He didnāt show up for us then. Heās not showing up now.
So no, Thom Tillis isnāt some hero taking a final bowāheās skipping town because the going got tough. Leaving the door wide open for another Trump crony to take his place. In 2026, weāre not just flipping a Senate seat.
Weāre cleaning up a decade of damage.
Independence Day šŗšø
This Independence Day, we celebrate the promise of Americaānot just the one written in 1776, but the one we build every single day.
We celebrate freedom, justice, and the belief that government should work for all its people. America is the brave who speak out. The communities who organize. The voters who show up. The people who refuse to let hate drown out hope.
This Independence Day, we wave the flag not just in celebrationābut in defiance. Because real patriotism means holding our country to its highest idealsāand fighting like hell when it falls short.
We are the people. This is our country. Happy Birthday, America.
Disability Pride Month āæ
July is Disability Pride Monthāa time to celebrate the strength, diversity, and resilience of people with disabilities.
Itās a reminder that disability is not something to hide or fixāitās something to honor. From visible to invisible, physical to cognitive, the disability community includes millions of Americans whose voices, experiences, and contributions deserve recognition and respect.
So this month, we lift up our neighbors, friends, and family members with pride in who they are. We listen. We advocate. We keep pushing for a North Carolina thatās more accessible, more inclusive, and more justāfor everyone.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging! We encourage you to take the content from this weekās package and share it across your socials. Remember, your digital voice has the power to start a movement!
See yāall on the internet!
