Yesterday, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, a historic relief package that will invest in North Carolinians and help us turn the corner on the COVID-19 pandemic. It also incentives Medicaid expansion for states that haven’t yet by temporarily increasing federal Medicaid payments by five percent for two years. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, “North Carolina would be in line for $2.4 billion.”

“Thanks to President Biden and North Carolina Democrats, the American Rescue Plan has unlocked an extra incentive for North Carolina to expand Medicaid to more than 500,000 North Carolinians that fall in the health care coverage gap today,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson. “If Republicans in the General Assembly refuse to take this deal, they are leaving billions of dollars on the table and turning their backs on hundreds of thousands of people across our state who have a right to quality, affordable care — especially during a global pandemic.”
