In response to President Trump and Michael Whatley traveling to Rocky Mount, NC tomorrow to push an agenda that is sending health care costs soaring for North Carolinians, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton released the following statement:

“As Donald Trump and DC politicians drive up health care costs while families struggle, DC insider Michael Whatley has cheered them on every step of the way. Now, Whatley is welcoming Trump and his DC insider friends to North Carolina so he can keep lying that costs are down while nearly a million North Carolinians face skyrocketing health care premiums. Whatley isn’t even trying to hide the fact that he will deliver for DC politicians, billionaires and special interests in the U.S. Senate and make everything more expensive for North Carolinians.”

DC insider Michael Whatley has repeatedly championed Republicans’ efforts to raise health care costs on North Carolinians:

• Whatley backed the toxic GOP budget that guts Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians and is driving up health care costs, all to give billionaires a tax break. He called it a “huge win” and said he would have voted for it “in a heartbeat.”

• Whatley – who called for repealing the ACA – supports DC Republicans refusing to extend the ACA tax credits that make health care more affordable.

• Nearly one million North Carolinians rely on the ACA tax credits.

• Estimates show out-of-pocket premiums could increase by 114% once the extended ACA subsidies expire.
