Helene Funding, People Over Politics, Decades of Delay

Our Digital Messages This Week 👇

Helene Funding🌀

When disaster strikes, leaders are supposed to step up. Michael Whatley? He stepped out. Nine months after being named “recovery czar,” Western North Carolina—devastated by Hurricane Helene—is still waiting for real relief. And they’re done with excuses.

Whatley has been “absent,” “to blame,” and flat-out missing in action. Which isn’t shocking. This is exactly who Michael Whatley is. He’s not a public servant—he’s a DC insider and Big Oil lobbyist whose career has been about protecting billionaires and special interests, not families in crisis.

Saturday, September 27th marks one year since Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina, and communities across Western NC are still waiting on funding that’s been allocated to them. The delays have gotten so bad that even Republicans like Ted Budd and Chuck Edwards are sounding the alarm. When your own party is calling you out for botching disaster relief, you know it’s not just partisan noise—it’s failure.

That’s why over 100+ residents across the mountains signed a letter demanding Whatley’s removal from the FEMA Review Council. If he can’t show up for Western North Carolina in a time of crisis, why would anyone trust him to show up for them in the U.S. Senate?

Folks in the mountains aren’t asking for miracles. They’re asking for accountability. Michael Whatley has failed North Carolina. He doesn’t deserve a seat on a review council—and he sure doesn’t deserve a promotion.

People over Politics đź’™

The 2026 elections aren’t just another round of political theater—they’re a turning point. The contrast between Democrats and Republicans couldn’t be clearer.

Republicans have built their agenda around tax breaks for the wealthy while working families struggle to keep food on the table. They’ve undermined Medicaid expansion and stood by as rural hospitals closed, leaving countless communities without care. Then they let Medicaid cuts sail through—proving their political grudges matter more to them than the health of North Carolinians. They’ve slashed local services families rely on, all while protecting billionaires and special interests. Time after time, they’ve put politics over people—playing power games instead of solving real problems.

Democrats envision an economy that works for the middle and working class—not one rigged to leave them behind while the wealthy cash in. Fully funded Medicaid so every person, no matter their ZIP code, can get the care they need. Investments flowing into families and communities, not just corporate boardrooms. A government where the people’s voice—not politicians clinging to power—drives decision-making.

Y’all, this is the choice in 2026. Reclaiming power isn’t just about winning elections—it’s about building a country where leaders show up, communities thrive, and working people are at the center of every decision.

The road ahead is pivotal. The stakes couldn’t be higher. In 2026, we decide whether America keeps catering to the wealthy and well-connected—or finally delivers for the people who make this country work.

Decades of Delay ⏰

North Carolina’s constitution guarantees every student a sound basic education. Thirty-one years ago, five school districts sued the state because they weren’t getting it. Decades later, students are still waiting.

The GOP-led legislature has the resources to fully fund our schools but refuses to act. Meanwhile, the GOP-controlled State Supreme Court has stalled a decision for nearly two years, leaving classrooms short-staffed and under-resourced. Our kids shouldn’t be punished because Republican leaders can’t do their damn jobs.

Teachers, students, and families deserve better. Yet North Carolina GOP leaders continue to operate on a patchwork budget, leaving schools scrambling and teachers picking up the slack. As the General Assembly returns to Raleigh this week, lawmakers must stop punting and start funding!

You can help make a difference. Sign this petition to push the legislature and courts to fully fund our schools and give every child the education they deserve!

That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
