“Recovery Czar” Michael Whatley was asked about his failure to deliver federal aid to Western North Carolina, and in typical DC insider fashion, Whatley lied about the state of Helene recovery efforts.
Whatley [00:15]: “Whether it’s housing assistance or small business assistance, it’s cleaning up the debris, it’s making sure that we’re rebuilding our roads and our bridges […] I am not going to forget Western North Carolina.”
The truth is that only 11 percent of needs have been met in Western North Carolina, and local governments are struggling as they wait for aid. Western North Carolinians have “express[ed] anger” about Whatley being “absent” and have called on him to be fired from the FEMA Review Council.
“Anyone who has been to Western North Carolina or talked to a Western North Carolinian lately knows that ‘recovery czar’ Michael Whatley has completely failed to do his job and deliver the relief that was promised to Helene victims,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor at the North Carolina Democratic Party. “ No matter what lies he tells, North Carolinians know DC insider and political hack Whatley has left them behind.”
