Ahead of the State of the Union, here’s a reminder that Michael Whatley has repeatedly championed his fellow DC insiders’ efforts to raise prices and hurt working families across North Carolina. From health care to groceries, costs are skyrocketing – and Whatley has cheered it on every step of the way.
“Time and time again, Michael Whatley has cheered on DC politicians as they drive up costs for working families, send health care premiums soaring, crush small businesses, and hurt farmers,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor for the North Carolina Democratic Party. “Whatley will always put his fellow DC insiders first, no matter how much it hurts North Carolina families.”
Whatley’s record includes:
- Praising a reckless and chaotic trade war, calling it “record setting in terms of […] effectiveness” and saying he supports it “wholeheartedly” – even as tariffs drove up costs, hurt farmers, and devastated small businesses and North Carolina’s furniture industry.
- Backing the toxic GOP budget that guts Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians and puts at least five rural hospitals across the state at risk of closing, all to give billionaires a tax break. He called it a “huge win” and said he would have voted for it “in a heartbeat.”
- Calling for repealing the ACA and supporting DC Republicans as they refused to extend the ACA tax credits that made health care more affordable.
