GOP Senate Candidate Michele Morrow: Recovery Czar Michael Whatley “Has Been Nowhere,” Is “Lost Up In DC”

As the GOP primary for Senate gets messier, Michele Morrow is slamming “recovery czar” Michael Whatley for his absence in Western North Carolina, saying “he has been nowhere.” Morrow called out Whatley for not “engag[ing] with the people of North Carolina” and instead being “lost up in DC.”

Morrow: “Michael Whatley was named as the czar, the recovery czar for North Carolina, a year ago this month, and he has been nowhere. He was given that incredible endorsement back in July, and in six months time, he has not tried to engage with the people of North Carolina. And we deserve someone who is not going to go and be lost up in DC…”

Morrow isn’t the first member of Whatley’s own party to sound the alarm on his job performance. Last week, Thom Tillis blasted FEMA’s “incompetent” response in Western North Carolina, and an NCGOP executive committee member said she “never saw [Whatley] step up.”

“Even Republicans know Michael Whatley has failed as recovery czar and completely abandoned Western North Carolina,” said NCDP Spokesperson Mallory Payne. “North Carolina deserves better than an absent DC insider like Michael Whatley.”
