New reporting from POLITICO has exposed a group chat of Young Republican leaders – who embraced and praised DC insider Michael Whatley as RNC Chairman – filled with slurs, racism, antisemitism, and sexual violence.
Peter Giunta, who “was the most prominent voice in the chat spreading racist messages,” endorsed and supported Whatley during his time at the RNC, congratulating him on his re-election as Chair and praising him for “transform[ing]” the RNC.
The new reporting reveals that Giunta repeatedly made racist and antisemitic comments, including praising Hitler, references to sending people to gas chambers, referring to Black people as “monkeys” and “watermelon people,” and supporting slavery.
North Carolinians deserve to know – will Whatley condemn Giunta’s rhetoric and denounce his support?
“This dangerous and despicable rhetoric has no place in North Carolina. North Carolinians deserve to know whether Michael Whatley will condemn his endorser Peter Giunta in light of these horrifying comments,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor for the North Carolina Democratic Party.

Jason Beeferman & Emily Ngo | October 14, 2025
- Peter Giunta, who at the time was chair of the same organization, wrote in a message sent in June that “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber.”
- “Im going to create some of the greatest physiological torture methods known to man. We only want true believers,” he continued.
- “If your pilot is a she and she looks ten shades darker than someone from Sicily, just end it there. Scream the no no word,” Giunta wrote.
- Giunta was the most prominent voice in the chat spreading racist messages — often encouraged or “liked” by other members.
- When Luke Mosiman, the chair of the Arizona Young Republicans, asked if the New Yorkers in the chat were watching an NBA playoff game, Giunta responded, “I’d go to the zoo if I wanted to watch monkey play ball.” Giunta elsewhere refers to Black people as “the watermelon people.”
- “Great. I love Hitler,” Giunta responded.
- In another conversation in February, Giunta talks approvingly about the Orange County Teenage Republican organization in New York […] “They support slavery and all that shit. Mega based,” he said.
- Giunta also had expletive-laden criticism for the Young Republicans in states that were supporting or leaning toward Padgett’s faction.
- “Minnesota – f—-ts,” he messaged, continuing: “Arkansas – inbred cow fuckers Nebraska – revolt in our favor; blocked their bind and have a majority of their delegates Maryland – fat stinky Jew … Rhode Island – traitorous c—s who I will eradicate from the face of this planet.”
- Giunta also said he planned to make one of the competing Young Republicans “unalive himself on the convention floor.”
