Whatley Kicks Off Campaign By Dodging Press Questions on Medicaid Cuts

After championing Medicaid cuts that could rip health care away from over 650,000 North Carolinians and close five rural hospitals, DC insider Michael Whatley kicked off his campaign for U.S. Senate by dodging questions from the press on the consequences of those cuts.

WRAL: We were not able to ask Whatley questions after the event so we asked his campaign, ‘you praised Trump’s budget plan that will kick nearly 700,000 North Carolinians off their health insurance. What do you say to people who rely on medicaid?’ His campaign did not immediately respond.”

“The GOP’s devastating cuts to Medicaid will be one of the biggest issues of this Senate race, and Michael Whatley can’t hide from the press forever,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor at the North Carolina Democratic Party. “North Carolinians are going to hold Whatley accountable for championing stripping health care from hundreds of thousands of people.”
