Ted Budd Will Say Anything To Get Elected

After glomming onto former President Trump’s endorsement to escape from his primary, the New York Times is now reporting that Budd is disingenuously trying to “downplay” the endorsement by making key changes to his website. A spokesperson for his campaign is saying the quiet part out loud, telling the NYT that “general elections have different dynamics than primary elections” and proving that Ted Budd is willing to say anything to get elected.

“It’s an insult to voters for Ted Budd’s campaign to think they can fool North Carolinians into believing whatever Ted Budd and his allies think will get him elected,” said NCDP spokesperson Kate Frauenfelder. “No website change can paper over the fact that he is out of step with North Carolina.”

Congressman Budd has shown time and time again he’s out of the mainstream of North Carolina – and even his own party. One local editorial even wrote that he is “off the rails,” and “leaning even harder into extreme positions that, simply put, North Carolinians do not like.”

Voters won’t be fooled. They know his record:

  • Budd supports an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or a mother’s health, but just 10 percent of respondents in a Meredith College poll said they would like to see abortion made illegal in all cases.
  • Budd is even out of step with his own Republican colleagues from North Carolina, Burr and Tillis, voting against the CHIPS Act, the gun safety compromise, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – all three of which both senators supported.
  • Budd has learned into the most extreme fringes of the GOP, peddling conspiracy theories that the 2020 election was illegitimate, voting to overturn the 2020 elections, and fundraising with Cleta Mitchell, one of Trump’s top lawyers during his pursuit to decertify the 2020 election.
