Statement on Donald Trump’s Supreme Court Nomination

Following Donald Trump’s announced appointment of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court, NCDP Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement:

“Today’s announcement makes this election even more critical for the future of our state and our country. The Supreme Court will consider the Trump administration’s lawsuit to end the Affordable Care Act just one week after the election, and with five million North Carolinians living with a pre-existing condition, the stakes could not be higher.

“Judge Barrett has been a vocal critic of the Court’s 2012 ruling upholding the ACA, which means that the coverage and protections on which millions of people across our state depend are all at risk.

“While Trump and his Republican allies will not give up on their crusade to rip affordable insurance away from millions of families, Joe Biden will fight to expand access to the coverage so many North Carolinians still need. Especially amidst a global pandemic, we must ensure that every American has access to the medical care they need, and that’s why we need Joe Biden in the White House.”
