North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted on the second impeachment of Donald Trump.

“Despite the courage of his colleague Senator Richard Burr, Senator Thom Tillis still chose Trump and his lies over his oath and obligation to protect our democracy. Donald Trump led a propaganda campaign of conspiracy theories and lies that the 2020 election was stolen and summoned a mob to Washington to act at his behest, inciting a violent, deadly insurrection. He must be held accountable.

“The evidence is stark, yet spineless Thom Tillis failed to stand up despite such an astounding crime against our democracy. It’s never been more clear that when it comes to standing up for what’s right, Thom Tillis will always put his political security first. His vote proves how truly out of touch he is from North Carolinians back home who witnessed the horror that transpired that day. History will indict him.”
