NCDP Statement on the U.S. House Introduction of An Article Of Impeachment

North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement after House Democrats unveiled an article of impeachment against the president this morning:

“North Carolina Democrats stand with our Democratic delegation’s efforts in calling for President Trump’s swift, lawful removal from office. After inciting the insidious violence and attacks at the Capitol last week, it is clear he is unfit to serve and remains a threat to our democracy.

“President Trump was not alone. Senators, like Senator Thom Tillis who have cowered to the President time and again as he inflames division in this country, and North Carolina Republicans, including Representatives Madison Cawthorn, David Rouzer, Greg Murphy, Ted Budd, Dan Bishop, Richard Hudson, and Virginia Foxx and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, have repeatedly enabled the president’s dangerous behavior. Even in the aftermath of an attempted coup, these Republicans continue to trumpet baseless claims that endanger our democratic institutions.

“Today marks a clear step in making explicit that there is no place for political violence in this country and further behavior of this kind will not be tolerated. Any North Carolina Republican who refuses to act is complicit.”
