As ACA open enrollment begins tomorrow and North Carolinians see their health care premiums double or more on average because DC Republicans – backed by Michael Whatley – refuse to fix the health care crisis they created, North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton released the following statement:
“Tomorrow, working families across North Carolina will go to renew their health coverage and find their premiums have skyrocketed, doubling or more in many cases. This is unacceptable and could have been easily avoided – but Michael Whatley has cheered on Washington Republicans as they refuse to lower health care costs for North Carolinians and fix the crisis they created. Whatley has made it clear he’s not looking out for working families, and North Carolinians will reject him at the ballot box next November.”
DC insider Michael Whatley has championed Republicans’ efforts to raise health care costs on North Carolinians:
- Whatley backed the toxic GOP budget that guts Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians and is driving up health care costs, all to give billionaires a tax break. He called it a “huge win” and said he would have voted for it “in a heartbeat.”
- Whatley supports Washington Republicans refusing to extend the ACA tax credits that make health care more affordable.
- Nearly one million North Carolinians rely on the ACA tax credits.
- New estimates show out-of-pocket premiums could increase by 114% once the extended ACA subsidies expire.
