NCDP Statement on June Unemployment Figures

Raleigh – NCDP Chairman Wayne Goodwin issued the following statement in response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ report that the US unemployment rate remains above 11 percent.

“Working North Carolinians continue to bear the brunt of this administration’s failures. Last week, more than 1.43 million Americans applied for jobless benefits and our national unemployment rate remains above 11 percent. As Joe Biden said this week, for our economy to recover from this pandemic, we have to get control of the coronavirus. And instead of heeding the advice of our public health experts, President Trump is ramping down his coronavirus task force, pushing states to loosen public safety measures and holding large-scale campaign events that endanger local communities. His reckless, short-sighted response continues to make this situation worse.”
