NCDP Statement on Biden Signing PACT Act

Senator Thom Tillis voted against this bipartisan bill

Congressman Ted Budd originally voted against the bill but after receiving backlash from veterans finally switched his position

Today, President Biden delivered on his promise to strengthen health care and benefits for America’s veterans and their survivors by signing the bipartisan Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act. North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement:

“Our nation has a grave responsibility to take care of our brave men and women who serve in uniform when they return home. With today’s signing of the Honoring Our PACT Act, which will provide critical care to treat illness and disease caused by war, President Biden is delivering for our country’s veterans. This bill holds significant meaning in North Carolina, where it will directly  impact and help veterans and their families at Camp Lejeune.

“While the majority of members of Congress put aside partisan differences to pass this bill, it’s a shame that North Carolina’s Republican Senator Thom Tillis voted against it. It’s equally concerning that Congressman Ted Budd originally voted against the bill but finally caved to pressure after a slew of unfavorable press and backlash from veterans. In November, North Carolina voters will choose leaders whose commitment to standing up for our state’s veterans is unwavering.”

What veterans said about Budd’s vote:

WXII: Veterans urge passage of ‘Burn pits’ bill… NC Senate candidates are on opposing sides.

WSOC: Charlotte veterans call out Congressman Budd for voting against legislation supporting veterans exposed to toxic substances
