NCDP, AAPI Caucus Condemn Recent Rise In Violence Against Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

The country is seeing a massive spike in hate crimes against Asian Americans since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Stop AAPI Hate, which tracks and responds to incidents of hate and violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, between March 19, 2020 and December 31, 2020, Stop AAPI Hate received over 2,800 firsthand accounts of anti-Asian hate across the country.

NCDP Chair Wayne Goodwin and NCDP AAPI Caucus President Gracie Galloway released a joint statement denouncing the discrimination.

“Since the beginning of COVID-19, we have witnessed a disturbing and abhorrent rise in racism toward and attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country. A symptom of the Trump administration’s xenophobic and racist rhetoric around COVID-19, the resurgence of this hate is unacceptable and antithetical to who we are as Americans. North Carolina Democrats stand together with our Asian American and Pacific Islander community in calling out and condemning racism of any form.”
