ICYMI: Congresswoman Manning, Mayor Vaughan, Sen. Garrett, Rep. Clemmons, and NCDP Chair Richardson Hold Press Call As Part of NC Democrats’ Tour to Highlight Help for Working People, Despite GOP’s Opposition

The North Carolina Democratic Party’s press tour will reach voters across the state to localize President Biden and Democrats’ work over the last nine months to deliver for North Carolina’s working class and hold Republicans accountable for their opposition

Today, Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06), Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, State Senator Michael Garrett, State Representative Ashton Clemmons and NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson held a press call as the second event of a 5 day, across the state tour on President Biden and Democrats’ investment in working families in the Triad, despite Republican obstructionism.

While President Biden and Democrats have been hard at work over the past nine months passing the American Rescue Plan and finishing work on passing the Build Back Better agenda, historic investments that will create jobs, cut costs for working families and keep the economic recovery going, the GOP have stood in the way and continue to prove time and again that there is no opportunity to help North Carolinians that trumps their singular goal of obstruction for political gain. If Ted Budd, Pat McCrory, or Mark Walker were in the U.S. Senate, North Carolinians can count on more of the same.

“Since joining Congress in January, my colleagues and I have faced the enormous challenge of getting the COVID-19 pandemic under control and building America back stronger than we were before. In March, my Democratic colleagues and I passed the American Rescue Plan to do just that. The American Rescue Plan provided stimulus checks, nutrition assistance to families in need, extended supplemental unemployment benefits for those who were unable to get back to work due to the pandemic, support for vaccine distribution and assistance for reopening schools safely,” said Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06)

“As Congresswoman Manning mentioned, The New York Times recently did a story on the financial impact of child care. This is something that impacts families throughout Greensboro and throughout the Triad. With the help of the expanded Child Tax Credit included in President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, families in Greensboro were able to pay rent when they got behind, afford groceries, and put their kids in child care. The Build Back Better Agenda will make these payments permanent and give families in Greensboro certainty,” said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan

“Thanks to President Biden, Governor Cooper, and Democrats North Carolina is on track to a clean energy future that promotes economic growth, protects the environment, and keeps money in the pocketbooks of everyday North Carolinians. By providing funding to create jobs and economic relief – and investing in vaccine distribution to finally defeat COVID-19 – the American Rescue Plan is a historic response to the public health and economic crises we faced, and there is no doubt that this legislation has made a difference to North Carolinians,” said State Senator Michael Garrett

“From investing in our schools, to making child care more affordable, to cutting taxes for the middle class, President Biden and Democrats know that investing in families is needed to set all Americans up for success and boost our economy along the way. President Biden and Democrats’ Build Back Better Agenda will continue on progress already made by making transformative investments in child care and lowering costs for families by making universal preschool a reality,” said State Representative Ashton Clemmons

“Our country is getting back on track, but we still have so much work to do to help our country recover from this pandemic and propel into the future. While President Biden, Congressman Butterfield, and Democrats are working hard to get the Build Back Better agenda over the finish line, Republicans have one singular goal — obstruction,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson.
