ICYMI: Congressman Butterfield, Mayor Hardy, Rep. Farkas and NCDP Chair Richardson Kick Off NC Democrats’ Tour to Highlight Help for Working People, Despite GOP’s Opposition

The North Carolina Democratic Party’s press tour will reach voters across the state to localize President Biden and Democrats’ work over the last nine months to deliver for North Carolina’s working class and hold Republicans accountable for their opposition

Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01), Kinston Mayor Don Hardy, Rep. Brian Farkas (HD-9) and North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson held an in-person press conference to kick off a five day, across the state press tour touting President Biden, Governor Cooper and Democrats’ work to invest in the backbone of this country – the working class – and calling out Republicans for trying to stand in the way.

Over the past nine months, President Biden and Democrats have been hard at work passing the American Rescue Plan and finishing work on passing the Build Back Better agenda, historic investments that will create jobs, cut costs for working families and keep the economic recovery going. Meanwhile, the GOP have stood in the way and continue to prove time and again that there is no opportunity to help North Carolinians that trumps their singular goal of obstruction for political gain. If Ted Budd, Pat McCrory, or Mark Walker were in the U.S. Senate, North Carolinians can count on more of the same.

“In March, my Democratic colleagues and I passed President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. This historic bill has changed the course of the pandemic by delivering immediate relief for families across North Carolina’s First Congressional District. Republicans had the opportunity early on to work with Democrats to pass this critical relief bill. Instead, in the darkest days of the pandemic, they stood aside, unified in opposition to checks in the bank for American families, aid to small businesses, and money to safely reopen schools,” said Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01).

“In Kinston’s Lenoir County, Pitt County’s neighbor, over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 9,000 residents have contracted the coronavirus and nearly 150 people have died from the virus. The pandemic didn’t only cause a public health crisis in Kinston. It brought on an economic downturn, making it tough for our town’s small businesses to thrive. That’s why President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan delivered the resources Kinston and our surrounding communities needed to get back on track on the pathway out of the pandemic,” said Kinston Mayor Don Hardy

“Communities across eastern North Carolina, including Pitt County, were gutted by the pandemic. In particular, our community health centers were on the frontlines throughout the pandemic, putting everything on the line to ensure our communities were given the care and protection that was needed to fight back against the virus. The funding provided in President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan for community health centers has been critically important to Pitt County,” said Rep. Brian Farkas

“The American Rescue Plan provided over 6.5 million adults across the state with a $1400 check, gave schools over $3 billion to get our kids and teachers safely back in the classroom, provided middle-class tax cuts to parents, and surged vaccines which are vital to putting this pandemic behind us once and for all. Despite all that good, not a single North Carolina Republican voted for it. Republicans have proven time and again that they have no interest in serving the people, and if Ted Budd, Pat McCrory, or Mark Walker were in the U.S. Senate, North Carolinians can count on more of the same,” said NCDP Chair Bobbie Richardson
