Asheville Citizen-Times: Opinion: Biden, Dems laser-focused on delivering for WNC

Last week, President Biden announced a framework for the Build Back Better Act, a transformative investment in climate, child care and elder care that will lower the costs of things families depend on, help people get back to work, and grow the economy.

Over the weekend, an op-ed in the Asheville Citizen-Times penned by Matt Ballance, the Chair of the NC-11 Democratic Party, laid out how President Biden and Democrats are delivering for Western North Carolina and highlighted how the Build Back Better Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will continue to build on progress that’s been made in the region: “President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will invest in our physical infrastructure and the Build Back Better Agenda will invest in our people and human infrastructure – cutting taxes for working families, lowering the costs of everyday needs like child care and health care, and tackling the climate crisis.”

Asheville Citizen-Times: Opinion: Biden, Dems laser-focused on delivering for WNC

  • “In Western North Carolina, the need for better roads and bridges, expanded access to high-speed internet, clean water, secure utility systems, and affordable child care is great in our region, and the need to pass legislation that would bring such improvements for our residents is critical. President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will invest in our physical infrastructure and the Build Back Better Agenda will invest in our people and human infrastructure – cutting taxes for working families, lowering the costs of everyday needs like child care and health care, and tackling the climate crisis.”

  • “After working for months with Democrats in Congress and hearing their input, President Biden is forging a path forward toward consensus on a Build Back Better package that costs $0, will not add a penny to the deficit, and will make life better for working families. Yet despite how much of an impact the Build Back Better agenda and bipartisan infrastructure package will make for our region, there is one group who stands to do nothing but obstruct these efforts: The Republican Party. Congressional Republicans, including Rep. Madison Cawthorn, who represents the 11th Congressional District, have shown time and time again over the last nine months that they care more about rhetoric, false narratives, and divisiveness than they do listening to the wishes of their constituents and helping make their day-to-day lives better.”

  • “In March, the entire North Carolina Republican delegation voted to block a critical relief bill – the American Rescue Plan – in the darkest days of the pandemic, standing unified in opposition to helping North Carolina families get back on their feet. In North Carolina, the American Rescue Plan provided over 6.5 million adults across the state with a $1400 check, gave schools over $3 billion to get our kids and teachers safely back in the classroom, provided middle-class tax cuts to parents, and surged vaccines which are vital to putting this pandemic behind us once and for all.”

  • “Our country is getting back on track, but we still have so much work to do to help our nation recover from this pandemic and propel into the future. The people of Western North Carolina are good, hard-working individuals who want to earn a decent living, have economic and educational opportunities for their children, and access to basic services that set us all up to succeed and thrive. President Biden and the Democratic Party are working hard to achieve that as we Build Back Better.”
