As Budd Fundraises In Manteo, 5 Ways He Has Voted Against Their Interests

As Ted Budd travels the state hosting private fundraisers instead of meeting with voters, we’re going to highlight the ways in which he’s failed communities across the Tar Heel State – starting in Manteo, North Carolina.

“Ted Budd hasn’t bothered to care about how his votes would negatively impact coastal communities like Manteo,” said Chris Hardee, Manteo resident. “From opposing efforts to clean up our drinking water to voting to allow offshore drilling off our beautiful coastline – I can’t trust him to do what’s right for us in the U.S. Senate.”

As Budd fundraises in Manteo this evening, take a look at five ways he’s voted against their best interests:

  • Congressman Budd voted against a ban on offshore drilling along the North Carolina coast, even as coastal mayors in North Carolina and the business community called on Washington to pass the ban to protect coastal communities. A week after that vote, Budd accepted $2,000 from Marathon Petroleum’s PAC.
  • Congressman Budd has repeatedly voted against bipartisan legislation that would clean up PFAS toxins in Manteo’s drinking water.
  • Despite wide support from both Republicans and Democrats, Budd voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that provided nearly $60 million to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for eastern North Carolina waterways and $6.4 million to dredge Manteo Shallowbag Bay, “a reprieve to the local beach towns and counties that, along with the state, have been footing much of the bill for dredging projects.”
  • Budd voted against the Inflation Reduction Act which takes a big step toward addressing the crisis as coastal communities like Manteo feel the impact of worsening severe weather events.
  • This week, Manteo resident Laura Allendorf is speaking out against Republicans like Ted Budd who opposed efforts to lower health care costs:
