After nearly a month of dodging questions about why he knowingly elevated a convicted child sex offender to NCGOP leadership positions, DC insider Michael Whatley was directly asked at an event – and once again refused to give an explanation.

NC Newsline Reporter: “I’d like to ask you about Harvey Lee West. Given his criminal history, was it appropriate to appoint him to?”

Whatley “dodged,” “sidestepped” and refused to answer the question. Nearly one month after being exposed for knowingly elevating a convicted child sex predator, Michael Whatley has yet to give North Carolinians an explanation. 

NC Newsline: “On Thursday, Whatley dodged a question about whether it was appropriate to appoint West to a party post, given his criminal history.”

“DC insider Michael Whatley repeatedly elevated a convicted child sex predator and now, even when directly asked, he refuses to explain why,” said Mallory Payne, senior communications advisor for the North Carolina Democratic Party. “Michael Whatley has proven time and time again that he only cares about himself and his political allies, even when it endangers North Carolina kids.”
