Primary Wins, Women’s History Month, Broken Promises
Here’s what were covering this week!👇
Celebrating Women’s History Month
As we kick off Women’s History Month, let’s shine a spotlight on the incredible Democratic women who have made a difference in North Carolina politics, both past and present. These trailblazers have not only broken barriers but have also paved the way for future generations.
First up, let’s honor Anita Earls, a dedicated civil rights attorney and currently a Supreme Court Justice. Anita has spent her career fighting for equality and justice, advocating for those whose voices often go unheard. Her journey to the Supreme Court has inspired many, reminding us of the power of perseverance and dedication to civil rights.
Then there’s Bev Perdue, the first female governor of North Carolina. Serving from 2009 to 2013, Bev made history as a strong advocate for education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for all North Carolinians.
We want to also honor Eliza Jane Pratt, who made history in 1946 as the first female congresswoman from North Carolina after years of serving as a congressional secretary. Fast forward to 1992, where Eva Clayton, became the second woman elected to Congress from our state, 46 years after Pratt. Their leadership broke new ground and opened doors for women in politics throughout the state.
As we look at the present and towards the future we are also proud to highlight Anderson Clayton, our NC Democratic Party Chair. As the youngest county chair in North Carolina, Anderson has shown incredible leadership and vision, guiding the organization through changes in a tough political landscape and a positive direction. Her commitment to empowering others and meeting people where they are- is truly inspiring.
These women, among many others in our party, have not only made headlines but have also shaped the narrative of what it means to be a woman in North Carolina politics. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let’s honor their achievements and continue to uplift the voices of women in our communities.
Here’s to the powerful women who have paved the way and those who are currently leading the charge — may we continue to inspire one another and strive for a brighter future.
Onward To November
The game is set. As of last night, our statewide slate of Democratic nominees is official!
Now the general election begins. We know it is going to be expensive and messy. Outside groups are already preparing to flood the airwaves with attacks as our opponents rev up their dark money machine.Â
But Democrats haven’t just been grinding our wheels. Our people-powered operation is full steam ahead. Last night, Governor Roy Cooper got nearly 200,000 more votes than Republican Michael Whatley.Â
Democrats have not won a Senate race in North Carolina since 2008. But with turnout numbers like that, I know this is our year.
Yesterday, North Carolina Democrats took the first step by selecting great candidates from the courts, to the legislature, to local office. We selected someone to challenge every legislative seat and every Congressional seat. The Democratic party ain’t letting Republicans get away with any free passes.Â
Another Broken Promise: No New WarsÂ
During his campaign, Donald Trump sold himself as the peace candidate.Â
No new wars. America First. Bring down costs on “day one.”Â
Over the weekend, Donald launched a massive military operation without a single vote from Congress. First, it was about regime change. Then, eight months ago, he declared Iran’s nuclear capacity completely destroyed. Now the administration is claiming that Iran posed a threat to the United States. The goalposts keep moving, the lies keep growing, and the American people deserve real answers.
Donald Trump has now carried out more strikes on foreign soil in one year than President Biden did in four. Republicans are sweating, with some warning the White House that these Iran strikes are so deeply unpopular they could cost their party even more seats in the midterms.
Here’s the bottom line: Donald promised peace and delivered war.Â
This November, y’all we turn our voices into our votes and start holding this administration accountable.
That’s a wrap for this week’s messaging!
Now it’s your turn! Download the graphics below, copy our captions, and get the message out! Whether you’re lighting up the group chat or sharing it on your timeline, your voice is what actually moves the needle!
See y’all on the internet!
