“WHAT AN OWN GOAL”: Canes Fans “Quick To Jump” On DC Insider Michael Whatley For “Lacking Fandom”

While the Carolina Hurricanes mounted a major comeback to win Game 2 in overtime last night, DC insider and pretend Canes fan Michael Whatley was still lost on the ice after he invented a nonexistent player in an AI graphic and failed to name a single player when asked three times. 

Meanwhile, North Carolinians were learning all about Whatley’s “lacking fandom” at the Game 2 watch party in downtown Raleigh:

 

Canes fans were “quick to jump” on Whatley for his pretend fandom, raising questions about his “authenticity and relatability.

No sports fan likes getting exposed for having fraudulent ball or puck knowledge. North Carolina politician Michael Whatley was just exposed for knowing virtually nothing about the state’s Stanley Cup finalist team and using AI to make a hockey graphic.

Carolina hockey fans were quick to jump on Whatley’s back for his clearly lacking fandom in the state’s puck team.

Politico: WHAT AN OWN GOAL — After former RNC Chair Michael Whatley posted AI-generated images of the Carolina Hurricanes, he couldn’t name his favorite player on the team when asked by The Assembly’s Bryan Anderson. “You know, I think we like them all,” Whatley said. After a brief chat with an adviser, Whatley told Anderson his favorite player is Jaccob Slavin.
