NEW: “Parents Against Whatley” Launches as NC Parents Slam Whatley for Appointing & Protecting A Convicted Child Sex Offender

North Carolina parents are speaking up in response to DC insider Michael Whatley repeatedly appointing convicted child sex offender Harvey West to NCGOP leadership roles, and today launched “Parents Against Whatley” to sound the alarm.

The coalition is made up of over 60 North Carolina parents from 19 counties. More than one-fourth of the coalition members are unaffiliated voters.

“DC insider Michael Whatley appointed and elevated a convicted child sex offender to leadership roles, putting North Carolina kids in danger so he could protect his political allies. It’s despicable, and North Carolina parents will hold him accountable at the ballot box in November,” said NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton. “Roy Cooper has dedicated his career to keeping families safe and will continue to do so in the U.S. Senate.”

Harvey West has confirmed that Whatley knew he had served six years in prison for sexually abusing three minors and appointed him to state party leadership anyway. Since the news came to light more than a month ago, Whatley has repeatedly refused to respond to reporter questions and sidestepped a question when he was asked about it directly.
