NCDP Statement on Signing of Governor Cooper and Democrats’ Bipartisan Energy Bill

North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) Chair Bobbie Richardson released the following statement on the passage of House Bill 951, Energy Solutions for North Carolina, a bill that would reduce carbon emissions 70% by 2030:

“Today Governor Cooper signed into law one of the strongest clean energy plans in the country. Together with Democratic leadership in the legislature, Governor Cooper successfully negotiated transformative energy legislation that passed with bipartisan support.

“This deal will dramatically boost renewable energy across the state while implementing a 70% carbon reduction mandate by the year 2030. This is a bold step in the right direction to protect the vulnerable communities that are disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change.

“Today’s bill signing means that North Carolina is now one of the few states in the country that has successfully put it’s clean energy goals into law. Governor Cooper and Legislative Democrats have put the state on track to a clean energy future that promotes economic growth, protects the environment, and keeps money in the pocketbooks of everyday North Carolinians.”
