WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: Lt. Gov. Robinson’s “Wacky” & “Ludicrous” Idea To Remove Science & History From Elementary Schools

Following a look into North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson’s upcoming memoir that detailed his vision for the future, news outlets and editorials are calling one of his ideas – a suggestion to remove science and history from elementary school curriculum – a “ludicrous belief” that would be “bad for our children,” “bad for our ‘best in business’ economy,” and would “make a mockery” of our state.

WRAL: ‘In memoir, NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson mulls 2024 run, calls for taking science, history out of elementary schools — “North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is dropping more hints about a potential run for governor in 2024. And, if elected, he says he’d work to keep science and history out of some elementary school classrooms. He says he’d also seek to eliminate the State Board of Education, end abortion and work to prevent transgender people from serving in the military.”

CBS17: Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson discusses education at Durham roundtable — “In response to Robinson’s education priorities, North Carolina Democratic Party spokesperson, Kate Frauenfelder, released this statement: ‘The Lieutenant Governor made clear that he has no interest in ensuring our kids receive a high-quality education after suggesting science and history ought not be taught in our elementary schools. No one should take him seriously on this issue.’”

Charlotte Observer: Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s truly wacky idea for North Carolina public schools — ”Third graders who attend public school in North Carolina learn about the solar system and volcanoes in science class. Fourth graders study fossils. Social studies at the second grade level teaches students about democracy. In fifth grade, students discuss rights that are protected under the U.S. Constitution. But according to Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, kids shouldn’t be learning about any of that.”

MSNBC: N.C. Republican reportedly floats ban on science, history in elementary schools — ”North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a Republican, may well be the most bigoted official in the United States with the least name recognition. He’s a full-on extremist. And he reportedly has a new, ludicrous belief to share with the masses: Science and history shouldn’t be taught to students until they reach sixth grade…Robinson, who reportedly wrote that he’s preparing for a run for governor in 2024, also called for the elimination of the state’s board of education.”
